CCAS — Who We Are

The Canadian Council of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah (CCAS) has been in existence since 2006. It is part of the world-wide community of Muslims known as the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah or Sunni Muslims whose beliefs and practices are based on The Holy Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. Since its inception, CCAS has hosted many public events. It has connections and works with mosques, associations and tariqahs across Canada.

CCAS represents a joint effort by a growing number of Muslim professionals and academics. Their main goal is to make CCAS into a lasting institution to organize Sunnis — the largest Muslim population in Canada — to play a leading role in establishing Islam in a planned and coordinated manner and to have a say in the political life and social fabric of Canada.

CCAS is unique in the sense that it is the only Canadian-based organization which engages with and caters for Canada's diverse Muslim population. It is working to unite Sunni Muslims by strengthening their institutions under a common vision.

The collective vision which CCAS aspires to will only be realized Insha Allah by selfless individuals who are committed to professionalism, inclusiveness, open-mindedness, always thinking about the common good and having respect for all scholars and shuyukh.

The collective vision of CCAS includes:

  • A common unified voice
  • Representation at all levels of government
  • Dictate the Islamic narrative
  • Expand the Sunni community and its influence
  • Develop standards that will strengthen our institutions
  • Leverage the success of individuals and institutions
  • Collect information in order to plan for the future and coordinate efforts

In any open forum no one expects everyone to agree to everything. Consequently, in CCAS decision making is fact based and is carried out in a manner where one can disagree without being disagreeable. There is no room for personal, cultural or political biases. Input from all stakeholders is taken before proposing new ideas or making decisions. Experience has proven that gentle persuasion is more effective than argumentation. Consensus is reached through professionalism. This is our modus operandi.

CCAS is only as good as those who become involved and take an active role. With a collective Sunni vision we hope to make a positive difference in Canada that will be a model for others to follow InSha Allah. Those who are involved with CCAS have successful careers al-hamdu-lilaah, and therefore seek no personal gain nor recognition. Their desire to work for the common good is solely to earn the Pleasure of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and to Honour our Beloved Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم.
